طبق گفته فاکس نیوز ، پیش از این ها نیز برادر مایکل به نام “جرمن فرایدی“ که در سال ۱۹۸۹ مسلمان شده بوده ، به مایکل پیشنهاد اسلام را می دهد. وی می گوید : وقتی من از مکه بازگشتم به او کتاب‌های زیادی دادم و او نیز سوالات بیشتری از دین من پرسید و من به او گفتم که این دین، دین “آرامش و زیبایی” است. او همه چیز را مطالعه می‌کرد و به من افتخار می‌کرد چون من چیزی را پیدا کرده‌بودم که آرامش و مقاومت درونی می‌داد.
